AN OSWESTRY Town Council member has praised community togetherness after a local site was removed from the preferred sites in the local plan.

Councillor Paul Milner thanked residents who objected to the inclusion of a site on Trefonen Road, which would have been earmarked for plans for around 30 homes to be built.

Oswestry Town Council had expressed concerns over the Trefonen Road site's inclusion in the local plan, and around 140 residents objected to its inclusion.

Cllr Milner believes the public’s response made a huge difference.

He said: “I want to thank the community for the way everyone came together to oppose this site.

“I want to make sure residents know it has been withdrawn as a preferred development.

“Also, I would like to thank the Shropshire Council officers for listening to the public consultation.

“They extended the consultation which enabled people to put more evidence in, so that was really good.”

After objections were put forward and a public consultation was conducted, the site was removed as one of the local plan’s preferred sites for 2026 to 2036.

Cllr Milner has encouraged residents in the town to take part in future consultations if they are ever concerned with any plans, and says this occasion is proof that residents’ views can make a difference.

He added: “It’s always best to make your feelings known on these matters and raise legitimate objections.

“I would urge people to take part in any consultation process relative to their area, because this one is an example of how it does work.

“It has ultimately gone towards taking this site out of the preferred developments.

“I would urge people to work with their local councillors to object to matters if necessary and make their feelings known.”
