THE long-running roadworks on Winsford Industrial Estate are nearing completion.

Drivers have faced months of delays and disruption as the gas works on Bostock Road have been taking place alongside sewer works on Road One.

The temporary traffic light sequence has now been changed which should ease congestion.

Winsford Town Cllr Nathan Pardoe, who represents Wharton, said: "I know this combination is causing delays for people getting to work at Winsford Industrial Estate, for deliveries and for through traffic.

"I've raised these issues with the Cheshire West and Chester Council and they have adjusted the traffic light sequencing at the Road One / A54 junction, helping improve traffic flow for traffic turning right from Road One to the A54 at the Middlewich side of the estate."

Following discussions, CWAC has asked the utility contractors to change the diversion route, taking effect from Friday, December 4.

"This will see the current route flipped and signage updated to reflect this, meaning traffic leaving Winsford will not be able to exit via Bostock Road, instead diverted via the A54," said Cllr Pardoe.

"Traffic entering Winsford will enter via Bostock Road, no longer being diverted via Road One. This will make it quicker for residents to get home, and reduce the queues at the Road One / A54 junction."

The Road One sewer works are due to be completed today, Wednesday, and the Bostock Road gas works are expected to be finished on Monday, December 7.

The remaining works on Road One are scheduled to be completed on Friday, December, 18, weather permitting.

"The works are inconvenient but essential and could not be scheduled differently due to the nature of the works," said Cllr Pardoe. "I'd like to thank residents and businesses for their patience and the council for taking on board my representations and the concerns raised."
