A DRIVER has been arrested after a police chase covering a distance of more than 50 miles on the M6.
Officers attempted to stop a car on the northbound carriageway of the motorway near to junction 14 at Stafford overnight, but the motorist failed to pull over.
The vehicle was finally brought to a halt near to junction 23 at Haydock, roughly 55 miles away, with the use of a stinger.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “The vehicle failed to stop for a colleague from Stafford, making their way up the M6 through Cheshire – whereby our patrols were waiting to assist.
“The vehicle was stung at junction 23 of the M6, and the pursuit was brought to a safe conclusion in the Greater Manchester Police area.
“The driver was arrested for various offences.”
