AS both Cheshire East and West prepare for life in the new Tier 2, coronavirus rates across the area are falling.

The two boroughs now sit only slightly above the halfway point out of all 315 areas across England for their Covid-19 infection rates, having been higher up the list earlier this month.

Both boroughs had seen their infection rates rise for week after week in much of October and November, but in the last fortnight the numbers have been heading in the right direction.

The latest figures compiled by PA cover the seven-day period up to November 22.

Cheshire West, including Northwich and Winsford, now has the 154th highest infection rate out of 315 English boroughs.

Its infection rate now stands at 168.2 per 100,000 people, following 577 Covid cases in the week up to November 22.

That is a sharp decline from last week's rate of 300.5 per 100,000 people, following 1,031 cases in the week up to November 15.

Meanwhile in Cheshire East, including Knutsford and Middlewich, the rate now stands at 164.8 per 100,000 people following 633 Covid cases in the week up to November 15.

That is another steep decline from last week's rate of 222.3 per 100,000 people, following 854 cases in the week up to November 15, and it means the borough has the 158th highest Covid rate.

Swale, in Kent, now has the highest infection rate and was placed in Tier 3 yesterday – while Cotswold borough has the lowest, but it was placed in Tier 2.

Here is the list in full for each English borough.

From left to right, it includes the latest infection rate per 100,000 people, the number of cases in the week up to November 22 in brackets, followed by the rate and case number in brackets for the week up to November 15.
