CLLR Matt Bryan is set to represent Cheshire West on the new Cheshire and Warrington sustainable and inclusive growth commission.

The commission, which seeks to make Cheshire and Warrington the ‘most sustainable and most inclusive sub-region in the UK’, will be made up of representatives from councils, the local enterprise partnership, and ten individuals from the private, health and social care, and community sectors.

As CWAC’s Cabinet Member for Climate Emergency, Cllr Bryan’s appointment to the board is set to be approved by fellow cabinet members at their meeting this week.

Cllr Bryan told the Guardian: “It is crucial that businesses and local authorities get their heads together to tackle the climate emergency. This [commission] will provide a really good way of doing that.

“We will put our heads together to see what kind of bids and projects we can come up with. The government is trying to promote sub-regional bids so hopefully we can expand on that.”

The commission will be chaired on a joint basis between a private sector member and the current chair of the sub-regional leaders’ board — currently Cheshire East Council leader Cllr Sam Corcoran.

CWAC Cabinet will meet to discuss the appointment at 10am on Wednesday, November 25.
