NEW figures from Public Health England show there have been another 215 cases of Covid-19 in Cheshire East and West in 24 hours.

The latest figures cover the 24-hour period up to 9am today, November 2.

They show that in Cheshire West, including Northwich and Winsford, there were 111 new coronavirus cases in that time.

That takes the borough's total to 6,082 cases since the pandemic began.

Menanwhile in Cheshire Est, including Knutsford and Middlewich, 104 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed.

That takes the borough's total to 6,362 since the pandemic started.

Across the UK, there were 18,950 new cases of coronavirus in the 24 hours up to 9am today.

The latest figures come as Prime Minister Boris Johnson is addressing MPs in the House of Commons, urging them to back a second national lockdown from Thursday.

He said: "The objective is to get the disease to stop doubling, the infection rate to stop doubling and to start halving.

"I do think there is the prospect of a much brighter future ahead if we can make a success of these national measures, open up again in December, give people the chance of some shopping, some economic activity in the weeks leading up to Chiristmas and beyond."

Tatton MP Esther McVey announced on Sunday night that she would be voting against the lockdown, insisting the move would bring 'disastrous effects to our lives, livelihoods, health and relationships'.
