ANOTHER 235 coronavirus cases have been confirmed across Cheshire East and West as the county awaits Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s lockdown announcement.

The latest figures from Public Health England cover the 24-hour period up to 9am today, October 31.

In Cheshire West, including Northwich and Winsford, there were 121 confirmed Covid-19 cases in that time – taking the borough’s total to 5,838 since the pandemic began.

Meanwhile in Cheshire East, including Knutsford and Middlewich, there were 114 cases in that time – taking the borough’s total to 6,157 since the pandemic started.

Today’s total of 235 cases across the two boroughs is lower than the 254 cases announced on Friday.

Seven-day infection rate figures published by Public Health England on Friday night show Cheshire East has an infection rate of 225.4 per 100,000 people after 866 cases in the week up to October 26, compared to 177.8 per 100,000 people one week earlier.

In Cheshire West, the rate is 231.1 per 100,000 people after 793 cases in the week up to October 26, compared to 203.7 per 100,000 people one week earlier.

Both boroughs have spent more than two weeks under Tier 2 restrictions, but they are expected to be replaced by a nationwide lockdown next week.
