A further death among Covid-19 positive patients has been announced across the NHS trust running hospital services in south Cumbria.

The death, which took place across the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, occurred yesterday.

Three deaths among Covid-19 positive patients have also taken place across the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. One occurred yesterday, while a further two occurred on Thursday.

No further deaths among Covid-19 positive patients in hospitals across north Cumbria were announced today.

Here are the number of new Covid-19 cases identified in each of Cumbria's local authorities in the past seven days:

  • Allerdale 105
  • Barrow-in-Furness 173
  • Carlisle 258
  • Copeland 96
  • Eden 110
  • South Lakeland 140

And here are the rate of new cases per 100,000 people per week. The England-wide rate currently stands at 228.7 per 100,000 people. Barrow and Carlisle are the only places in Cumbria with above-average rates.

Today is the first day for Carlisle under new Tier 2 Covid-19 restrictions.

Barrow also remains under Tier 2 restrictions.

Allerdale, Copeland, Eden and South Lakeland remains under Tier 1 restrictions.

The nation awaits a potential update from the Prime Minister today on whether the UK will be placed into a second lockdown next week.
