A flood warning and a further flood alert has been put in place for the Keswick area.

The more serious flood warning has been put in place for the Keswick Campsite area, with a less serious flood alert put in place for the Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwent Water areas.

The warning for the Keswick Campsite area comes following high levels of water detected at the Lodore gauge, which monitors Derwent Water.

It is expected that the levels will remain high throughout the day.

An Environment Agency spokesman explained: "This is due to the rain that started in the early hours and will continue until mid-afternoon.

"A drier period will follow this evening, before more rain moves in from the west early Sunday morning.

"Depending on the intensity of the rainfall over the catchment, the levels may continue to fall throughout the day, albeit slowly.

"Flooding is expected to continue to affect low lying areas bordering the shores of Derwent Water and the frontage of the Keswick Camping and Caravan Club Site.

"We continue to closely monitor the situation."

People are advised to avoid using low-lying footpaths near rivers.

Water levels are also likely to remain high on the River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck, Watendlath Beck, Derwent Water and their tributaries.
