A PRIMARY school in Padgate has bid a fond farewell to its caretaker after two decades of service.

Allan Leigh has retired after 20 years in the post at Brook Acre Community Primary School.

Staff and pupils at the Hilden Road school shared happy memories of their long-serving caretaker during a special virtual celebration before the half-term break.

Youngster remembered how Allan was always on hand to welcome them in with a high five at the start of the school day.

The granddad is now looking forward to spending more time with his family during his retirement.

A Broke Acre spokesman said: "After 20 years at Brook Acre Community Primary School, Allan Leigh is stepping into his retirement shoes.

"Lots of memories were shared from the children via a virtual celebration.

"The children shared their memories about how he always welcomed them into school with a high five, or the time when he made them laugh whilst they learned outside in foundation stage.

"Staff shared their goodbyes and well wishes for so many happy years – he will be truly missed.

"He is looking forward to his retirement, which will include spending time with his family and grandchildren and working on some projects he’ll now have more time for."
