ALMOST 300 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in just 24 hours across Cheshire East and West boroughs.

New figures from Public Health England cover the 24-hour period up to 9am today, October 27.

In Cheshire East, including Knutsford and Middlewich, 166 cases were confirmed in that time to take the borough’s total to 5,657 since the pandemic started.

Meanwhile in Cheshire West, including Northwich and Winsford, there were 127 new cases to take the borough’s total to 5,320 since the pandemic began.

In total, 293 cases were confirmed in 24 hours across the two boroughs.

Both Cheshire East and West are in a Tier 2 Covid lockdown and had begun to see case numbers decline last week, but today’s figures represent another surge in the numbers.

Yesterday, it was confirmed that 699 cases had been confirmed over the weekend in the two boroughs, from 9am last Friday to 9am on Monday.

Both boroughs have also seen seven-day rolling infection rates increase in recent days.
