MIDDLEWICH Library will close for more than six weeks while essential refurbishment work takes place.

The library, in Lewin Street, will be closed from Monday, November 2, to Wednesday, December 16.

All books issued by Middlewich Library will be due back at the library on Thursday, December 17.

All existing loans from Middlewich Library will be extended to this date.

Readers can return any books to other Cheshire East libraries – including at The Commons, in Sandbach, and in London Road, Holmes Chapel.

A planning application was submitted in August to carry out renovation at the 1960s Middlewich Library building.

The proposed work will include the replacement of windows, doors, fascias and boards that cover the ends of roof rafters, including the lobby entrance and canopy.

Low carbon and modern materials will be used where possible in the renovation, Cheshire East Council says.

A decision is yet to be made on the planning application for Middlewich Library, and residents can comment on the plans until Thursday, November 5.
