A DAVENHAM schoolgirl is spending half term raising money for her local foodbank.

Ten-year-old Frances Bull, who attends Davenham Primary School, decided she wanted to raise money for the Mid Cheshire Foodbank after missing out on making donations to it at her local supermarket.

Mum Abby explains: "Whenever we went shopping before, she'd always get stuff to pop in the basket.

"But because we've a lot more online shopping over the past few months, she's not been able to do that and it just played on her mind a bit.

"So she decided to set herself a half term challenge by trying to raise money for our local Foodbank as she was worried that more people would need to use them because of Covid."

Frances spent a couple days making several needle felted Christmas baubles and when finished, decided to raffle them off as a way to raise funds.

Abby went on: "She loves Christmas and she's made them all by herself.

"She just sat down one night and started stabbing away with the little needle and created these little baubles.

"We put it on the Davenham Life Facebook page, and we've had lots of people contacting us wanting to buy a raffle ticket."

The sale of raffle tickets, which cost just 50 pence each, has not been restricted to online buying only, with Frances going out door to door over the weekend.

Abby said: "On Saturday she trudged around our street and the next street in the pouring rain, she was absolutely drenched, bless her.

"But she had a mission and she was determined to do it.

"I'm very proud of what she's decided to do, she's great, a real trouper."

Since starting on Saturday, Frances has so far managed to raise just under £200 and the draw for the winner of the baubles will be made on November 1.
