CHESHIRE East and West have seen another fall in the number of new coronavirus cases confirmed in 24 hours.

Latest figures from Public Health England cover the 24 hours up to 9am today, October 23.

In Cheshire East, including Knutsford and Middlewich, there were 99 new coronavirus cases confirmed in the 24 hours up to 9am today.

That takes the borough’s total to 5,144 Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began.

Meanwhile in Cheshire West, including Northwich and Winsford, there were 90 new coronavirus cases in the 24 hours up to 9am today.

That takes the borough’s total to 4,841 Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began.

Overall, the two boroughs saw 189 new cases in 24 hours, compared to the 207 announced on Thursday, 244 on Wednesday and 262 on Tuesday.

However, Cheshire’s seven-day rolling figures for infection rate have seen a week-on-week rise, according to Public Health England.

The latest figures published today cover the seven-day period up to October 19.

Cheshire West’s infection rate now stands at 201.1 per 100,000 people, following 690 cases in the week up to October 19.

That compares to 197 per 100,000 people last week, following 676 cases in the seven days up to October 12.

The infection rate in Cheshire East is lower at 176.8 per 100,000 people – the exact same rate as last week, following 679 cases in each of the weeks up to October 12 and 19.

Knowsley, in Merseyside, has the highest infection rate in England at 662.2 per 100,000 people.
