HEART transplant champion Max Johnson was gutted to discover vandals had wrecked his bike.

The 12-year-old has spent months shielding at home in Winsford and had only recently returned to the classroom.

Wellwisher Ben Ireson set up a GoFundMe page to buy him a new bike and the appeal has already raised £220.

Mum Emma, 50, said: "Max was so upset. His bike is his independence. It is really important to him. I am very grateful to everyone concerned for offering to help. It is very kind."

Crusading Max became a campaigner after undergoing lifesaving surgery.

The schoolboy was only eight when he fell ill and was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy and spent 206 days in hospital on the urgent transplant list.

He is only alive today thanks to Keira Ball, a nine year old girl who tragically lost her life in a car crash.

Max became an ambassador to change the law for organ donation

Max became an ambassador for a campaign to introduce new legislation known as Max and Keira's law, which means that consent for organ donation will be presumed unless people opt out.

The dedicated schoolboy won a Pride of Britain Award and has campaigned vigorously to encourage more people to become organ donors.
