ANOTHER 244 coronavirus cases have been confirmed across Cheshire East and West in 24 hours.

It comes as the UK has seen a record total number of new coronavirus cases in a day, at 26,688.

However, Cheshire’s daily case numbers have actually fallen since the figure of 262 released on Tuesday.

The latest figures from Public Health England show Covid-19 cases up to 9am today, October 21.

In Cheshire East, including Knutsford and Middlewich, there have been another 154 cases of coronavirus – taking the total to 4,949 since the start of the pandemic.

Meanwhile in Cheshire West, including Northwich and Winsford, there have been another 90 cases – taking the total to 4,640.

Ian Ashworth, director of public health for Cheshire West, told the council’s Covid-19 outbreak board on Tuesday that the borough had seen a decline in its infection rate since Tier 2 restrictions were imposed last Wednesday.

However, Mr Ashworth suggested it was too early to know if that was a definitive trend, or if it was due to a delay in the number of new cases being reported.

The recently-introduced rules mean households cannot mix indoors, but the rule of six still applies outdoors, while pubs and restaurants can continue to trade until 10pm.
