DESPITE a decision from the Forestry Commission to stop selling them earlier this month, there WILL be Christmas trees on sale in Delamere this year.

The Forestry Commission's announcement earlier this month devastated residents who had made the annual trip to Delamere part of their Christmas tradition for years.

But families will still be able to make the trip for a tree this year, as an independent business in the heart of the forest will be selling its own homegrown trees as usual.

DD Forestry, which has sites at Hatchmere and Delamere Station Forest Cafe, has been selling Christmas trees grown at Delamere Forest to Cheshire families since 1981.

Louise Darlington, from DD Forestry, told the Guardian: "The Forestry Commission's announcement shocked everyone and we wanted to let everyone know we will still be here in Delamere Forest selling trees.

Northwich Guardian:

Trees will be on sale at Delamere Station House Cafe, as well as in Hatchmere

"We have six types of trees and they are all local – they are not shipped around the country – they are freshly cut and brought to our sales area."

Louise says it will be 'business as usual' for DD Forestry this year, with the firm complying to all coronavirus restrictions to make sure both staff and customers are safe.

She believes people will be looking forward to Christmas in 2020 following a year of Covid-19 gloom.

"We have seen it when people have hit hard times in the past," said Louise.

"This year people can't get away, they potentially won't be able to go to other people's houses, so they will want to have their own celebrations at home.

"They will want to have a nice Christmas Day and having a nice tree is a massive part of that."

Sales at DD Forestry will begin on November 24 at both sites and are set to run until December 20.
