THE devastated sister of a man who she says ’touched the lives of many’ has paid tribute to him following his sudden death.

Mathew Theobald, 31, who was originally from Ellesmere Port but recently moved to Upton in Chester, was sadly found dead at his home on October 10.

His sister Emma said her family has been left "heartbroken" by their loss, and described her brother as a "rock".

A fundraising page in his memory has been set up after scores of people asked if they could make a donation towards the funeral and has already amassed nearly £1,500.

Mathew, also known as Matty or Pear Head, previously worked at Costco on Dunkirk Trading Estate and volunteered at The Ace Club in Ellesmere Port for several years.

Emma said that despite the fact her brother was battling his own mental health issues, he would always be available to help others and put their needs first.

She said: "My brother touched the lives of many and I've had hundreds of lovely stories about him sent to me. I've even had a message from someone stating he saved her life – she was so low, she was going to end her life but he talked her around.

"Matty has been unemployed since leaving Costco as he was battling his own demons, and has struggled with mental heath issues for years.

"No matter how low he was, he would always help others in need and put their needs first. He volunteered to help others at The Ace Club in Ellesmere Port.

"This is a disco for special needs people and was a weekly event. He really enjoyed this and anyone who met him knew he was such a character.

"My brother also had articles published in a book called 'Hope with Depression' to help people with anxiety and depression. He talked about his own issues and how he felt in the hope it could help others.

"Matty felt as though he didn't get the help he needed from mental health teams and would often say he wanted to run his own group to help people with issues like himself.

"He had a borderline personality disorder but was open about his issues. He was the best brother and uncle to my little girl who he absolutely adored.

"Matty was my rock and as my dad has already passed, he was there for me. my mum and sister when we needed him. We are heartbroken.

"My brother will now be at peace and will be laid to rest close to my dad at Mayfields in Eastham. Many people have been asking if they can give a donation towards flowers or the funeral so I have set up a JustGiving page. Any donation is gratefully appreciated."
