A YOUTH football team in Winsford is looking for new players and coaches.

Winsford Colts Football Club is recruiting under 7s and encouraging parents to come forward to run the team.

"We are desperate for at least another six players," said Judith Cook, the club's welfare officer. "We struggled during lockdown for players. We're looking for boys and girls and they don't have to have any experience.

"All we're looking for are kids who want to make new friends and have a bit of fun and exercise."

The team currently trains on Wednesday evenings from 5.30pm to 6.30pm on the Verdin Exchange playing fields and plays matches on a Saturday morning.

Training will move to 6pm to 7pm in November when the squad moves to a 3G floodlit pitch at High Street Primary School.

The club is also keen to recruit new coaches.

"We love to get parents involved," said Judith. "When we start new teams we love to have parents volunteering. We will put them through qualifications so that they can take over the team."

Judith's husband Rob currently manages the team but will hand over to parents as soon as they are trained and have sufficient confidence and expertise.

"Our son who is now in the under 16s but he started when he was five," said Judith. "There are opportunities for kids from the age of two to 16, we have teams in every age group. We are trying to start them very young. Anybody who wants to play football is very welcome to contact us."

Parents interested in enrolling their children can contact Winsford Colts Football Club on Facebook, email info@winsfordcoltsfc.co.uk or call Rob Cook on 07375 601649.
