LITTER louts and fly-tippers are tarnishing the image of Winsford, warns an incensed grandad.

The 60-year-old says Rilshaw Lane is being turned into a dumping ground by irresponsible people.

Northwich Guardian:

Bags of rubbish are constantly being dumped

"It is an utter disgrace," said the Wharton resident. "Residents are under an increased attack from litter louts and fly-tippers. Everything from bags of rubbish, old tins of paint, nappies, papers and discarded food wrappers are just thrown into the road."

Fly-tipping in Rilshaw Lane is infuriating residents

Tipping has increased, he said, since a building project has started in Rilshaw Lane and is not fair to residents who have pride in the town.

Northwich Guardian:

Residents are fed up with litter louts

"My blood boils when I think of the amount of council tax I pay," said the man, who has lived in Winsford for most of his life. "As a law-abiding citizen I take full responsibility for any rubbish I create ensuring that all recyclable products are placed in the correct coloured bins.

"Fly-tipping adds further misery to anyone trying to sell their house. Buyers will be enthralled when they check out the local area only to be presented with a discarded baby nappy or tin of paint. It's an eyesore. We're fighting a losing battle.

"Everyone should take responsibility for their own rubbish."

Winsford Town Cllr Nathan Pardoe said:"Flytipping is unjustifiable and dealing with it takes staff time and taxpayer's money away from more positive projects.

"The best way to combat flytipping is to catch those responsible, and councillors are working to deliver CCTV and enforcement in areas where flytippers choose to dump rubbish."

Cllr Karen Shore, deputy leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council and cabinet member for environment, highways and strategic transport, said: “Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, our StreetCare team started working with local community groups in Wharton to tackle fly-tipping and provided help and advice regarding the disposal of bulky items. Wharton is also one of the locations we hope to target with mobile CCTV cameras very soon.

"Our teams removed a large fly-tip in Rilshaw Lane just three weeks ago and the lane has unfortunately become a hotspot for littering. All fly tipping is completely unacceptable and offenders will be prosecuted if caught.

"We now have a ‘Report it app’ that makes it easy for residents to let us know about fly tipping, problems with roads like potholes and street lighting, dog fouling and full litter bins.”

Cllr Joanne Moorcroft said: "The issue of flytipping on Rilshaw Lane is becoming a regular problem and whilst councillors are working hard to deliver a solution to combat this issue it must be made clear that the best way to do that is to catch those who are responsible.

"How anyone can think it is Ok to dump their rubbish in this way is beyond me, they clearly have no regard for our community or the residents on Rilshaw Lane who are being adversely affected by their actions."
