A POP-UP art exhibition is set to capture lockdown experiences and make history.

Schoolchildren, local artists and organisations are invited to create a work of art which will be hung on a line in Winsford using clothes pegs.

The exhibition will be unveiled on Thursday, October 15 in the town centre as part of an international festival.

The invitation to get involved came from Winsford’s French twin town Deuil-la-barre, where such events, known as La Grande Lessive, have been held every six months for many years.

The concept is very simple.

Artwork created by the local community is hung on a clothesline using wooden clothes pegs to create a promenade of art for residents to enjoy throughout the day.

The theme of the exhibition  is Inventing our history.

Artwork will reflect our personal experiences and perspective of the last six months of lockdown and represent this unique moment in history.

The art  can take any form, drawings, paintings, photographs or collages. The only rule is that submissions must be on A4 sized paper.

Cllr Damon Horrill, chairman of the community committee, said:“Winsford Town Council is pleased to be able to provide something for the whole community to get involved with, especially given the ongoing restrictions which have spoiled plans for virtually every scheduled vent since March.”

The idea is to involve the whole community so the council is calling on every household to create a piece that helps tell their personal story.

Cllr Lyndsay Barwell said: “It is fantastic to be working closely with our twin town in France and extremely poignant at this time. Communities all around the world are facing the same challenge, as a global community we are all in this together."

Pictures taken during the event will be sent to Winsford's twin town near Paris who will publish them in their magazine and post them on our website.
