PENKETH High School has been recognised for its staff's hard work and dedication to provide a better educational experience for pupils.

The Heath Road school, which was judged 'good' by Ofsted in February, will also be recognised by Government Initiatives IQ as a 100 Top Performing and Improving School for 2020.

The news highlights how school staff have brought about rapid improvements after the site was classed as 'requiring improvement' or only providing a 'satisfactory' provision in its three previous Ofsted inspections, stretching back to 2010.

As part of the newest report, Ofsted stated: "Parents and carers, pupils, and staff say the head teacher has transformed school leadership.

"The headteacher and trustees promote the highest of ambitions for all pupils.

"They are determined to provide the best for them.

"The hard work of staff contributes to the good quality of education that pupils receive."

Penketh High School has also received the news that its maths department has been shortlisted in a group of ten schools for maths team/teacher of the year at the National TES Awards 2020.

It is the only north west school in the category.

John Carlin, principal, explained: "Performance of pupils within maths at the school was questioned by Ofsted in 2010, 2013 and 2015, but the improvement work undertaken over the last three years has seen the school secure significant improvement in this area.

"The nomination for the award is deserved recognition for the improvements in teaching, the quality of the curriculum and, ultimately, the outcomes for pupils.

"The school is keen to recognise the contribution of pupils who have risen to the challenge and thrived in an environment of higher expectations and standards."
