ROAD closures were put in place in Orford this afternoon due to a police incident.

The junction of Orford Lane, Marsh House Lane and Battersby Lane was cordoned off by officers shortly after 12.15pm.

Armed officers were called to the scene after Cheshire Police received reports of a 'disturbance', with a damaged white van found abandoned on Marsh House Lane.

No casualties are believed to have been injured, while the force says it has not received any reports of gunshots being fired during the incident - as had been rumoured on social media.

All routes had reopened as of around 2.30pm.

Shattered glass could be seen strewn across the pavement near to the roundabout at the junction of the street with Battersby Lane and Orford Lane.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "At around 12.20pm today, Tuesday, September 29, police were called to reports of a disturbance on Marsh House Lane.

"Officers were dispatched to the scene, where they found a white van which had been damaged and abandoned.

"There are no reports of any injuries and there are no reports of any firearms being discharged.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone with any dashcam footage which may aid the investigation, is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number IML816290."
