NEW restrictions are being introduced to stop drivers from parking outside a village primary school.

Warrington Borough Council is looking to introduce no stopping rules outside Thelwall Junior School on Thelwall New Road.

It says the change, will be enforced between 8am and 5pm on weekdays, has been introduced to help children get to school safely.

A spokesman added: "As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent relaxation of lockdown, the council has been working closely with schools to support the return of all pupils to school in a safe environment.

"In addition, guidance from central government is that measures to promote active travel (cycling and walking) and discourage the use of the car, should be considered for journeys to and from school.

"Through discussions with Thelwall Community Junior School and following observations by traffic management officers, it has been deemed necessary to prevent vehicles stopping outside the school entrance."

The new rules could be introduced next month following a consultation period.
