WINSFORD is set to welcome a new town mayor on Monday.

Swanlow ward Lib Dem Cllr Ailsa Gaskill-Jones is to step down at the annual council meeting.

Deputy mayor Labour Cllr Don Beckett is expected to take over the chain of office after councillors take a vote.

However there will be no formal investiture due to social distancing restrictions.

The incoming mayor will make a declaration and acceptance of office and agree to observe the town council's members' code of conduct.

The outgoing mayor has served an extra six months as this is the first time members have met at Wyvern House. Meetings have been held on Zoom video conferencing throughout the pandemic.

Cllr Gaskill-Jones, who has just completed her second term having served as mayor in 2015-2016, chose the history and heritage of the town as her themes.

The midwife and mum-of-three chose she has chose three local charities, Motherwell, Cheshire Young Carers and Cotswold House, to support during her year as mayor.
