CHILDREN had lots of fun learning new skills at a community project in Winsford.
An action packed programme of free events and activities was co-ordinated by an enthusiastic team of volunteers.
The GGO Community Group ran a four week holiday scheme with a difference.
Families were encouraged to do lots of new challenges with their children at home.
Children thrilled to paint their own bird box
Mums chairman Vicki Nash and vice chairman Gale Butler organised activity packs for little ones to explore with their sisters and brothers.
Vicki said: "We prepared meals in a box.The whole idea was that they can make a meal together and feed the family that night. We gave them all the ingredients and a simple recipe.

"The first one was pizza and they loved it. It went really well. Cottage pie went down just as well. The kids enjoyed chopping onions and peeling potatoes. It was amazing."

Children were given a bee kit so they could sow seeds for plants which will attract wildlife into their gardens.
"Some kids are frightened of bees because they think they are wasps and will get stung," said Gale."We gave them a list of bees and help them to realise that they are becoming extinct."
Children were also be shown how to build a bird box and squirrel feeder to take home.

Arts and crafts activities encouraged youngsters to develop their creative skills.

Around 25 children with special learning needs and their families joined in with the activities.
"We had dance, Zumba and sports outside for our families," said Gale. "They loved everything. It made such a difference.
"It has been such a busy and enjoyable time we are hoping to do a similar programme at half term and again the week after Christmas.
"It got families doing things together. We have received some amazing comments and get a lot of support from parents.
"We are like one big family. It was great to see everyone so happy."
Gale and Vicky would like to thank all the volunteers who helped to make the project such a success, especially Katherine Barlow and Jessica Cole.
