Last week I wrote about the various types of facial treatments available in salons to combat ageing so I thought it may be good to talk about a variety of body treatments that are available in salons.

Many people talk about the Covid stone, referring to the weight that they have put on during lockdown.

There is lots of advice readily available on diets and exercise. Some salon body treatments can enhance your results, but don’t be fooled in to thinking that they will give you the dream body you have always hoped for without putting in some hard work yourself.

Body Wraps

There is a variation of body wraps that claim to be slimming or help to combat cellulite whilst others are to nourish and hydrate your skin. For long term results I am not a great fan of body wraps in terms of loosing weight, but they do leave the skin feeling great and are good to have prior to an event as you will feel better in your clothes.

Often the body will be scrubbed, and various massage techniques may be used and body masks. The body is then wrapped or bandaged in product infused cloths.

You can have a one-off body wrap prior to an event or have a course leading up to. I personally prefer to have a deeper treatment which has longer lasting results, although I would have a body wrap treatment as a one off to make the skin feel good and relax.

Endermologie

This is a treatment designed to reduce the appearance of cellulite, reshape, contour and improve the appearance of loose skin. The procedure is pain free and non-invasive and uses a combination of suction and body rollers that works on fat cells. Clients are given a body stocking to put on prior to the treatment, the treatment is performed on a treatment bed and the Endermologie treatment should be performed by a trained therapist or treatment specialist.

This treatment must be used in conjunction with a balanced diet and exercise plan. A course of treatment is required followed by maintenance for best results. I have been trained in Endermologie and thought that the results were good.

Radio Frequency

I have already talked last week on the benefits of Radio Frequency for the skin on the face. This treatment can also be performed on targeted areas on the body. It can be great for areas of loose skin and can help areas of cellulite too. It can help reduce the appearance of stretch marks and keep the skin on the body looking firm and toned.

Certain radio frequency machines can help with fat cells too. Look out for multi polar machines for the body.

The treatment uses heat to work on the deeper layers in the skin. Results are progressive rather than instant. The therapist should take the temperature of the skin throughout the treatment to ensure that the skin is heated up to the right temperature without burning.

Caci body treatments

Caci provides select salons with a menu of body treatments to enhance certain areas of the body. The treatments can include Caci Slim Tone which exercises your muscles without breaking in to a sweat, the treatment uses muscle stimulation to tone and tighten muscles, and improve the appearance of cellulite.

Caci bust contour helps to lift and tone the muscles around the bust area, giving an enhanced, fuller appearance. You can often see a lift after one treatment. This treatment won’t solve the problem of heavily sagging breasts where surgery may be the only solution.

Caci buttock lift is designed to firm, sculpt and tone your buttocks and back of the thighs. Great to lift and define.

Caci Electro Massager gives lift, shape and tone to your buttock and thigh area. Conductive rollers are used to improve the appearance of cellulite and stimulate circulation and lymph drainage, giving a smoother, tighter dimple free appearance.

There are other machines that use a faradic current to stimulate and tone the muscles which also gives good results. I like Caci as each client has their own pads, they are not reused on other clients, so nice and hygienic too.

There are many salon treatments to try and do your research, there are cooling and sculpting treatments which are designed to freeze stubborn pockets of fat, but check that your practitioner is suitably trained. Invasive treatments are best left to medically qualified practitioners.

Remember all treatments that are designed to improve cellulite and work on muscles or fat can only do so much. They can really enhance results when following a good diet and exercise programme. You can continue to have an unhealthy diet and achieve great results.

Tips to make the most out of your body treatment

  1. Make sure that you have a thorough consultation to find the right treatment for you.
  2. Do not have these treatments if you are pregnant.
  3. Always be honest with your therapist about any health problems, they are designed to keep you safe and often adaptions to the treatment can be made.
  4. Try to understand if the procedure isn’t suitable for you, risking your health is not worth it.
  5. Follow all after-care advice following your treatment to achieve the best results.
  6. Follow a healthy exercise programme and eat a healthy and balanced diet. Reduce your sugar intake if you suffer with cellulite.
  7. Write down your goals and refer to them daily to keep motivated.
  8. Set yourself a goal. Treat yourself when you achieve it such as a new outfit or makeup, but not a cake!
  9. If booking a course of treatment, book it when you are able to have the treatments in the time frame outlined for best results e.g. weekly or monthly.
  10. Use home the care products that compliment the treatment and enhance results.
