DRIVERS are being warned of long delays on the M6 in both directions on the approach to junction 19 for Knutsford.

A multi-vehicle crash between junction 20 for Lymm and 19 on the southbound side is causing severe delays this afternoon, August 28, with traffic queueing back to junction 21 for Warrington.

The road had been closed following the crash involving two lorries and two cars at around 2.30pm, but was reopened at 4.15pm.

Five fire engines were sent out to the scene, where a woman had to be released from her vehicle.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service says there are no reports of any injuries at this time.

There is currently a 40 mph limit in place on the northbound side of the M6 heading towards junction 19, where delays are being made worse by drivers looking to see the crash on the other side.

All lanes of the motorway have now been reopened between junctions 18 for Middlewich and 19 following flooding on the carriageway earlier today.

Two landes had been closed earlier this morning, while one of the lanes reopened at around 10am and the second reopened by 2.30pm.

However, traffic is still queueing on the approach to junction 19, and there are now nine miles of queues.

It is currently taking 25 minutes to get through the mid Cheshire stretch on the northbound side.
