A DEVELOPER has confirmed its intention to build 39 housing association properties at a former Winsford builders' yard.

Winsford resident Roland Finney secured outline planning permission for up to 40 homes at Grange Yard, off Grange Lane, back in May 2018.

The decision from Cheshire West and Chester Council’s planning committee was a controversial one, with ward councillors objecting to the scheme and a 93-strong petition lodged against it.

Now, housebuilder Mulbury has unveiled plans to build 20 cottage-style flats and 19 semi-detached houses at the site in a £4.1 million development.

Greg Mulligan, co-founder and director at Mulbury, said: “This is a great opportunity to provide well-built, affordable homes in Winsford.

“The development has been carefully designed to be sensitive to existing homes in the area and will bring a fresh new look to this dilapidated site.”

Northwich Guardian:

Mulbury is now submitting a reserved matters application with CWAC for the site, including detailed designs that require approval from the local authority.

If given the go-ahead, the firm will be building the mix of one, two and three-bedroom properties on behalf of housing association Jigsaw Homes Group.

Joanne Bonnington, assistant director of development at Jigsaw Group, added: “Jigsaw has an ambitious plan for developing new high quality, affordable properties across the north west in order to help alleviate the housing crisis in the region.

“As such we are very much looking forward to working with Mulbury to develop new homes in Winsford.”

The development would use the existing site access off Grange Lane with residents and visitors arriving into a cul-de-sac.

Mulbury says most of the mature trees to the site boundary would be retained as part of the scheme and all properties would have good-sized rear gardens and off-road parking.

Subject to planning permission, Mulbury would aim to make a start on site in January 2021, with the development scheduled for completion in spring 2022.

The planning application is yet to appear on CWAC’s planning website for public comments.
