THE New Look store in Northwich has closed down in what is described as a 'body blow' to the town centre by its ward councillor.

The closure was confirmed in a post on the store’s Instagram page on Tuesday, while New Look's website now lists Winsford as the nearest store to Northwich.

The post on Instagram said: “It’s with a heavy heart that we have to announce Northwich New Look will not be opening its doors again.

“We want to thank every single one of you for supporting us over the many years.

"You weren’t just customers, many of you have become friends. We will miss seeing you all, stay safe, Team Northwich."

Cllr Sam Naylor believes the store will be missed, but hopes an independent business will be able to thrive in its place.

He said: "I think it was a well-used shop and it was here for a long time, so it is a sad day.

"These big companies are making decisions, they have obviously seen an opportunity and for one reason or another have decided to cease trading in Northwich.

"It is a bit of a body blow to the town, no doubt about that, but we have still got people coming in to Barons Quay and the town centre.

"Hopefully this will give an opportunity for an independent business because the direction of travel does appear to be away from big brands and more towards smaller businesses."
