POLICE have confirmed that the body of a man has been recovered from the bottom of a cliff.

Officers responded to reports of a body on the Undercliff Walk near the Whitecliffs Cafe in Saltdean in the early hours of this morning.

The force, who were called at 4.52am, say the death is not being treated as suspicious and the coroner’s officer has been informed.

This is the second death in the area in the past week.

On Wednesday evening, a woman died after falling from the cliffs in Marine Drive, Brighton, less than three miles to the east of the Saltdean undercliff.

Sussex Police were called to reports of a woman “falling off a cliff” at 5.38pm.

Witnesses said the incident happened opposite Roedean School, which is near Brighton Marina.

Officers rushed to the scene.

But they later confirmed the woman could not be saved.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “The woman sadly died at the scene.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.

“The incident has been referred to the Coroner’s Office.”
