POLICE have released footage of the shocking moment a child crashed with a car as she ran across a Bournemouth road.
The short video clip shows the lead up and aftermath of the collision, which took place in Charminster Road on July 7.
The 11-year-old girl can be seen running across the road and into the path of the car, with the driver being unable to do anything to prevent the crash.
Following the initial impact, the girl rolls up the bonnet of the vehicle and onto the windscreen before tumbling to the ground.
She manages to get straight back onto her feet and only sustained minor injuries.
The driver was shaken by the incident but found to not be at any fault following a police investigation.
Discussing the reason for releasing the footage online, Mark Armstrong, head of road safety for Dorset Police, said: "It is absolutely vital we educate road users of all ages in staying safe on our roads.
"Fortunately we are seeing an ongoing decrease in the number of people killed or seriously injured, but any collision can be devastating.
"This latest initiative aims to encourage parents to have conversations with their children to remind them of the importance of stopping, looking and listening before crossing.
"While the girl made a swift recover on this occasion, sadly this is not always the case."
Each year around 30 child pedestrians are involved in collisions on Dorset's roads.
As reported, police have launched a new campaign to encourage people to cross roads at designated safe places.
The awareness effort by the Dorset Road Safety Partnership targeted sites across the conurbation where serious collisions had occurred in which pedestrians had attempted to go across the road at an undesignated point, when there was in fact a crossing point nearby.
