ANIMALS were rescued safely after a fire broke out at a farm building in Middlewich.

Firefighters were called to reports of a fire in a building containing animals at a farm in Joness Lane shortly before 1.30pm this afternoon.

Crews discovered that all the animals had been rescued by farm workers.

The fire involved a detached building measuring approximately five metres by 15 metres.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus each used a hose reel jet to fight the fire.

A farmer used farming machinery to move sleepers involved in the fire away from the back of the building to a yard, where they were subsequently extinguished.

Once the fire was out firefighters damped everything involved in the fire down to make the area safe.

Two crews from Middlewich and Sandbach dealt with the incident.

Firefighters were at the scene for one hour and 40 minutes.
