ENERGETIC Winsford firefighters are tackling a daunting challenge.

Crews are mounting a static 433 mile bike ride, the distance from the Sadler Road fire station to Deuil-la-Barre, Winsford's twin town.

Firefighters will be mounting their epic feat in front of the fire station on Saturday, August 8.

Crews have set up a JustGiving page and hope to raise £1,000 for The Fire Fighters Charity.

The Firefighters Charity provides confidential, personalised support to the whole of the fire services community, delivering mental health, physical health and social wellbeing services at their centres, remotely, online and in communities around the UK.

Championing the health and wellbeing of all those they support - serving, retired or dependant - they aim to ensure that their beneficiaries can live well, for life. In addition, they are not all firefighters.

They exist to support all fire and rescue service personnel, whatever their role in the service. They are also there for all those who have retired, as well as for spouses and qualifying dependants.

A spokesman for Winsford Fire Station said: "The cancellation of fundraising events due to the pandemic is causing our income to fall short of £200,000 a month. These are unprecedented times and, as such, we are asking you to take action now to support us through this challenging time.

"Please give whatever you can to help us reach our fundraising target."
