A FEAST of fun is lined up for families in Winsford.

An action packed programme of events and activities is being provided by an enthusiastic team of volunteers.

The GGO Community Group launches this year's four week holiday scheme on Monday, July 27.

It is open to everyone of all ages and everything is absolutely free.

Mums chairman Vicki Nash and vice chairman Gale Butler are busy putting the finishing touches to all the activities which will run on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Gale said: "We've both got children with additional needs. We're a caring group. We get families to work together."

Around 300 people took part last year and more are expected this summer due to the current pandemic.

Exciting new projects are being introduced to encourage families to cook at home.

"We're doing meals in a box," said Gale. "The whole idea is that they can make a meal together and feed the family that night. We will give them all the ingredients and a simple recipe which will explain how to do everything from scratch.

"The first one will be a pizza and the next one will be cottage pie. We will also tell them the cheapest places to buy things if they want to do it themselves again afterwards."

Every family taking part will also receive healthy sandwich packs for lunch.

All sorts of other challenges are being prepared to inspire children to develop a love of nature and learn new skills.

"We're going to give each child a bee saver kit," said Gale. "It will include seeds to plant in their gardens to attract bees. Some kids are frightened of bees because they think they are wasps and will get stung. We will give them a list of bees and help them to realise that they are becoming extinct."

The GGO Community Group was delighted to receive a grant of £4,218 from Winsford Town Council to fund two gazebos, a generator and 48 chairs to ensure activities meet the Government's Covid-19 regulations.

Councillors unanimously approved the funding at a zoom council meeting last night, Monday.

"We can't thank the town council enough for their generosity," said Gale. "It really has made a difference. We will be doing lots of outdoor events on the field and we need ensure social distancing.

Sports activities, football, zumba and dancing are lined up as part of the summer holiday programme

"We've got kids zumba, Fancy Feet will be leading some dancing and we've got some sports activities and football.

"It's important to give the kids some exercise."

Families were delighted to visit Gulliver's World and Blackpool last year but unfortunately, due to the pandemic, days out are not possible this year.

"We usually do trips out and it was great to see nans and aunties going with the children," said Gale. "Many families don't get the chance to go to the beach.

"On the last day we're going to make it really special and have a big picnic with lots of games and activities. It's lovely to give our families these opportunties."
