OLYMPIC medallist Beth Tweddle is set to open a new, state-of-the-art gymnastics centre in Bolton after its original launch was delayed due to Covid-19.

The new facility, upstairs in the DW Sports and Fitness unit on Manchester Road, Burnden, is aimed at families offering a “unique gymnastics journey” for children with experienced coaches and online progress tracking.

Opening on Saturday, July 25, the centre will follow government guidelines and clear social distancing measures to ensure it can operate safely.

Signage will be displayed throughout the centre to manage customer flow with increased sanitisation between lessons and staff having undergone additional training and completed a Covid-19 safety qualification.

Beth is Britain’s most successful female gymnast, with three world titles and an Olympic bronze medal from London 2012.

She was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2010 New Year Honours and founded Beth Tweddle Gymnastics ten years ago alongside fellow Olympian Steve Parry.

Speaking about the centre, Beth said: “I am passionate about developing children to be the very best they can be.

“This isn’t about creating the next generation of elite gymnasts, it’s about inspiring a generation to get involved in sport and promoting the many benefits of gymnastics.

“Children across the country have spent the last three months in lockdown, unable to see their friends, so it’s more important than ever for us to open our centre doors as soon as it’s safe to do so.

“We’re so excited to open our new centre to the local community and start delivering our programme.”
