PLANS for a one-bed detached retirement bungalow to the rear of 4 Station Road in Holmes Chapel have sparked parking and access concerns.

The application by John Gore to Cheshire East Council is being opposed by Holmes Chapel Parish Council.

The council said: “We have concerns about the proximity of the proposed building to nearby properties, which will result in an unacceptable loss of amenity in terms of light and privacy, to the immediate neighbours.

“Whilst two car parking spaces are proposed, we have concerns about the parking and access arrangements for the proposed dwelling.

“The access is close to the traffic light-controlled junction of the A50/A54, where parking by existing residents already creates problems.

“We believe the addition of the proposed dwelling would exacerbate this situation and create more safety issues for pedestrians and additional traffic congestion at this location.

“Furthermore, we consider the proposed dwelling would constitute over-development of this small site, to the detriment of the adjoining properties and the local streetscape.”

A resident of London Road said: “Parking is already a problem on the main road with many residents parking on the grass verges, this creates mud on the pavement when the grass areas become wet and also creates blind spots for pulling out of driveways.

“Adding another dwelling here will undoubtedly create further parking issues. Parking is restricted on Station Road, forcing vehicles onto London Road.

“This proposed house will block out light from our living area and completely block our views of the sky from our side window.

“We have no issue with an extension or a building much further away from our property. Due to the close proximity we must object to it.”

Jodrell Bank Observatory now opposes development across a significant part of its consultation zone as a matter of principle, order to protect the efficiency of the radio telescope, and is opposing the bungalow scheme.
