DEVELOPERS have been given the green light to build 11 new homes in Middlewich.

A mix of three three-bedroom homes and eight four-bedroom properties are set to be built on land off Croxton Lane.

The existing Silver Birches bungalow will be demolished along with other outbuildings, opening up the site as far east as the Croxton Trail and towards Chestnut Close to the south.

CEC received objections from nine households, raising concerns about the scheme’s impact on road safety and parking, but officers were satisfied with the plans to use the existing access to the property and felt the parking arrangements would be sufficient.

Criticisms also included a lack of green space, the impact on ecology, the scheme being an ‘overdevelopment’ of the site and a potential loss of privacy.

In approving the plans, Cheshire East Council officers said: “The application site is located within the settlement boundary of Middlewich and the principle of development is considered to be acceptable.

“It would not raise any significant amenity, ecology, tree, flood risk, drainage or highway issues. The proposal is therefore in compliance with the relevant policies.”

Revised plans for the development were submitted to CEC last month.

A similar proposal was approved back in March 2009 to knock down buildings on the site and build 12 homes, but the plans never came to fruition.

Developer Calon Homes has three years to begin work on the scheme.
