PLANS to build 14 new apartments in Winsford town centre have been given the green light.

An empty building at 52 High Street is to be bulldozed to make space for the housing development on land beside this property.

Applicants Jason Waldron and Richard Barnes, of Meadow Home Farm in School Road, Winsford, have received permission from Cheshire West and Chester Council to go ahead with the project.

The scheme includes six one bedroom and eight two bedroom apartments.

In a report, planning officers said:"Whilst the site is part of a local retail centre, it has been vacant for quite some time, along with a number of other units, and now there are a wide variety of uses along the High Street frontage.

"The fact that there are a number of vacant units on the High Street and other instances where proposals for residential use were permitted are factors which also weigh in favour of the proposal.

"The site is within walking distance to the town centre which will reduce the use of the private car, however matters of parking and highway impacts need consideration."

The plans were approved subject to conditions. Details of the phasing of the demolition and construction traffic for the development must be submitted to the council.

The scheme will provide £31, 910 in contributions for new and improved open space provision in Winsford.

The project will also trigger a capital sum of £3,480 and 10 year maintenance sum of £6,180 towards the provision of sports pitches.
