From July 4, many venues, including restaurants, pubs, cinemas, visitor attractions, hotels and campsites will start to re-open. While these venues can open, not all of them will be – as they continue to work through the practicalities of reopening in a safe way for customers, staff and communities.

But while these changes may feel like a step in the right direction, we need to stay alert and remember that Coronavirus has not gone away.  There are things that all of us can do, to slow the spread of COVID-19 and help to Keep Wirral Well.

Wirral businesses, working with local Public Health and Environmental Health teams, have made changes to ensure that they can reopen safely. Such changes may include additional outdoor areas, queuing systems and social distancing markings for customers. Many of our local venues have also adapted with takeaway options, quick collect and online shopping.

Wirral Globe: Pubs can reopen this weekend, but with restrictions in placePubs can reopen this weekend, but with restrictions in place

If you’re thinking about visiting any local shops, I would urge you, please wait. We don’t want to overload our high streets at this stage and staying home, where you can, will help our economy to reopen. And importantly – stay open.

If you are set on visiting a pub or restaurant, you must exercise caution. Everyone has a part to play to avoid local lockdown, which we have already seen come into place elsewhere in the country. Please increase your handwashing, avoid close contact with anyone you do not live with and keep your distance from the staff who are getting used to working in these new conditions.

While we can now meet in groups of up to two households (your support bubble counts as one household) in any location - public or private, indoors or outdoors – you must keep 2m apart between these households wherever possible, even indoors.

When you are outside you can continue to meet in groups of up to six people from different households, again, whilst following social distancing guidelines.

We are still in the middle of a pandemic so if you’re out and about, your risk of spreading the disease to someone vulnerable is much higher than if you stay home.

So please, think twice before heading to the pub or the high street this weekend. Do your bit to Keep Wirral Well.

Thanks again for reading and please, take care.
