THE rise in confirmed coronavirus cases in Cheshire West and East has slowed down over the past week.

Latest figures from Public Health England show that in Cheshire West, including Northwich and Winsford, 36 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed in the borough by 9am today, June 10, compared to the same time last Wednesday, June 3.

That compares to a week-on-week increase of 55 cases between May 27 and June 3, and an increase of 76 cases in the week before that, between May 20 and May 27.

Meanwhile in Cheshire East – including Knutsford, Wilmslow and Middlewich – 24 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed in the borough by 9am today compared to the same time last Wednesday.

That figure compares to a week-on-week increase of 45 cases between May 27 and June 3, and an increase of 77 cases in the week before that, between May 20 and May 27.

There have now been a total of 2,466 confirmed cases across the two boroughs – 1,193 in Cheshire West and 1,273 in Cheshire East.

While the figures are positive, Cheshire residents are being urged to keep safe and stay alert, particularly given the north west’s ‘R’ value was rated at 1.01 last week.

Keep washing hands regularly for 20 seconds, stay two metres apart from individuals who are not members of your own household and stay at home as much as possible.
