MIDDLEWICH Town Council has a new deputy town clerk.

Former admin assistant Nicola Antoney has been promoted following the appointment of permanent town clerk Lisa Benskin.

Nicola, who has worked at the council since November 2012, started as a temp before being offered the admin assistant role in August, 2013.

Jonathan Parry, chairman of the internal committee, said: “Nicci is a very valuable member of our team and has been vital during this last year. Her work ethic and commitment is what we need in a small council.

"She fully deserves this role and I am very confident we now have an excellent leadership team in place to take this council forward and work towards our aspirations of making Middlewich Town Council one of the few gold standard councils in Cheshire East.”

Nicola said: “I am over the moon with the appointment and looking forward to continuing to support the new town clerk, the Town Council and the residents of Middlewich in moving the council and town forward in this in new chapter.

"I would like to thank clerk Lisa Benskin and all the councillors for their support and faith in making me deputy clerk and I look forward to seeing what we can achieve.”

Town clerk Lisa Benskin added: “Nicci has been invaluable to me since joining Middlewich Town Council in helping me learning about the council, its workings and its staff and members. It is important to recognise and reward talent within an organisation and this appointment is designed to do exactly that. Well done Nicci."

The council will be looking to recruit an admin assistant to add to the team when they return to the offices, following the Covid-19 lockdown later in the summer.
