MORE than 740 deaths from coronavirus have now been registered by Cheshire East and West councils.

New figures from the Office of National Statistics show the number of deaths recorded by both local authorities as of May 30.

In Cheshire West – which includes Northwich and Winsford – 317 deaths from Covid-19 were recorded by the council, including 99 in care homes.

Meanwhile in Cheshire East – which includes Middlewich, Knutsford and Wilmslow – 427 deaths from Covid-19 were recorded, including 174 in care homes.

It means a total of 744 deaths from coronavirus were recorded by the two neighbouring councils by May 30, 54 more than one week earlier.

Cheshire West and Chester Council recorded slightly more deaths in the week up to May 30 than the one before it, at 27 compared to 22.

However, there was a sharp decline in the number of new deaths recorded by Cheshire East Council in the week up to May 30, at 27 compared to 50 in the week up to May 23.

The latest figures from Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Leighton Hospital, show that 183 coronavirus patients had died at its sites as of 5pm on Monday.

That was one more than at 5pm on Sunday, and an increase of 15 over the same time last Monday.

Meanwhile at Macclesfield Hospital, the latest figures from East Cheshire NHS Trust show that 115 coronavirus patients had died at its sites as of 5pm on Monday.

That was two more than at 5pm on Sunday, and an increase of four over the same time last Monday.

Hospitals’ daily death counts are revised each day, meaning some recorded in the last 24 hours may have taken place at an earlier date.

Another six cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Cheshire West by 9am on Tuesday, June 2, taking the total to 1,151.

A further three were confirmed in Cheshire East by the same time today, taking the total to 1,241.
