A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty following reports of a pony being mistreated across Winsford and Middlewich.
The 25-year-old was arrested by officers in Booth Lane, Middlewich, at 4.30pm on Monday, June 1.
He was also arrested on suspicion of endangering other road users and possession of a class B drug.
The man has since been released under investigation.
The pony was reportedly seen across Winsford and Middlewich over the weekend, with several posts made on Facebook by residents concerned about its welfare.
Eye-witnesses describe seeing the pony pulling along two men sat on a wheelie bin across both towns.
The pony was collected by the RSPCA and taken to a rescue centre in Wales.
An RSPCA spokesman said: "We're aware of this incident and ask anyone with information to contact us on 0300 1234 999."
