THE WITTON COLUMN – By Paul Harper

WITTON Albion have announced their first three signings for the new campaign.

After a quiet period since last season was suspended and then cancelled, it’s good to get back to reporting on some news and to get interest going for the new season, whenever we’ll be able to get going.

First of all, we announced the additions of Scott Bakkor and Josh Gregory to the squad, before we broke the news that Isaac Baldwin had turned his successful loan spell from last term into a permanent move to Wincham Park.

Each player adds something exciting to the squad and it’s an encouraging start to the club’s building of the squad for the 2020-21 season.

They are all of a good age, with room to improve and go on to achieve bigger and better things, each with ambition to do just that.

Bakkor is the oldest of the three, aged just 25. He is no stranger to the club having played for us earlier in his career during his formative years, and is an exciting forward player who can play down the middle or out wide.

He’s got excellent experience at this level and will bring that to the team next season.

Gregory is the youngest of the trio at just 21. He’s an interesting signing, someone who began his career in the Football League with Wigan Athletic before dropping down into non-league in a bid to rebuild and step back to that kind of level.

He’s been at Chorley and then had a good season with Prescot Cables last term to earn a move up a level and he’ll be looking to keep improving.

Gregory enjoys building up the play from the heart of the midfield and could be a key player for Albion going forward.

And lastly, but by no means least, 23-year-old Baldwin is another excellent addition.

The defender had a superb spell on loan from Farsley Celtic last season and, both defensively and offensively, he’ll offer great options to the side, with the ability to play in either full-back position.

Having spoken to Isaac about him rejoining the club, he has a fantastic attitude and possesses the ambition to want to do well for the club, not hiding away from the fact that he wants to win promotion for the third time in his career.

It all bodes well for the future. We’re looking forward to the new season already.

We hope that all Wittoners are staying safe and keeping well.
