CORONAVIRUS hasn’t stopped Citizens Advice Cheshire West (CACW) defending the rights of their clients, the charity says.

Staff and volunteers have continued to work from home since their offices closed for face-to-face appointments at the start of the lockdown.

The team has won more than over £100,000 in backdated benefits and an average weekly increase of £114.25 for their clients between mid February and the end of March.

CACW Money advice manager Martin Booth said: “Just this week we’ve heard that a client who we’ve been helping to appeal a case dating back to 2018 has had £48,301.18 in benefit overpayments written off.

"He struggles with illness on a daily basis and had not been aware of the overpayment. It’s an enormous weight off his shoulders that the debt has now been deemed unrecoverable.

"It’s really good work from our welfare rights adviser, Alex, and an excellent outcome for our client. I couldn’t be prouder of our whole team during this difficult time.”
