FAMILIES say they have been overwhelmed by the support they have received from Darnhall Primary School during lockdown.

Staff have delivered hampers to homes across town and organised a weekly foodbank through FareShare for the local community.

Son Jayden, nine, and daughter Amelia Grace, eight, are pupils and have received constant support.

"Teachers call every week," said Mike, who works at the job centre. "Anything we need to talk about we give them a bell. The whole team from admin to teachers have been brilliant, you can't fault them. As a family we can't thank them enough."

Darnhall Primary School headteacher Sarah Tomlinson said: "My aim was that nobody should feel isolated. We wanted to continue our school motto through outreach to the community.

"We have done shopping for parents if they are isolated or vulnerable.

"We had people from all over town visit our foodbank. They have all thanked us."

Every family received a creative activity and games pack funded by The Darnhall Trust and Amston Charitable Trust.

"We put in emotional support activities that families could do at home to keep them mentally well," said Sarah.

Cookery and craft demonstrations, stories, competitions and various interactive challenges on the school's Facebook page have inspired children to learn new skills.

"We want to maintain morale. We are here for everybody."
