A SECOND major Middlewich event has been postponed due to coronavirus.

The Classic Car and Bike Show will not take place at Harbutt's Field on July 18 and 19, with events currently unable to take place on land owned by Cheshire East Council.

Town councillors agreed to postpone the event to September or October, with a date to be decided next month if guidelines allow it to go ahead.

It follows the decision to push back the Folk and Boat Festival to September 25 to 27.

A decision will also be made on the Community Awards on October 23, Remembrance Sunday on November 8, the Christmas lights and market on November 20 and the over-70s party on December 6 closer to the dates of those events.

Lisa Benskin, town clerk, said: "Some councils are cancelling the whole year's events including Christmas [events].

"I think we are not at the point where a decision has to be made on that yet."

Middlewich Town Council said it was eager to support the town's businesses this year when postponing Folk and Boat last month.

Ms Benskin told Monday's meeting that support for businesses would be a big focus for the council as the coronavirus crisis moves forward.
