A DJ who has found himself with extra time on his hands in the lockdown has come up with a dazzling way to thank key workers.

With all Kevin Lever's bookings pushed back because of the pandemic, the Middlewich DJ decided he wanted to put his equipment to good use by lighting up his home, in Mottram Close, each Thursday night.

He told the Guardian: "I've got no work on at all at the moment because all the pubs are shut and weddings and parties have been postponed.

"I wanted to do something to show support for key workers. Our neighbours are really supportive of them, clapping and banging pots and pans, so I wanted to see what else I could do.

"As a DJ I've got all this equipment that is doing absolutely nothing at the moment, so I thought I could do something a bit different.

"There are a couple of young lads over the road that absolutely love it and look forward to it every week. It's nice to do it for them and everybody on the close."

Usually, Kevin would use lights and projectors at weddings and parties.

He first decided to light up his home blue as a thank you to NHS staff, before using his projector a week later to show a banner thanking key workers.

His efforts last night, April 23, were the most colourful yet – with rainbow lighting to thank everyone who is working tirelessly during the current crisis.

"I am trying to think of something a bit different each week," added Kevin.

Kevin says his business is currently 'dead in the water'.

Clients who made bookings with him have fortunately moved them to a later date, but Kevin is making no money at the moment, and he doesn't expect to rake in much from Government support schemes because of the way they are calculated using three-year profits.

"A lot of the money I take in goes on business expenses," he said.

"I've got all the equipment which is expensive, it is £750 to £800 for a light. We invest money in the business, so because the schemes are based on profit I am not really expecting much back.

"Luckily my wife has a full-time job which keeps us going, but these are certainly different times, interesting times as the old proverb goes."
