WINSFORD United Football Club have set up a crowd-funding page in a bid to stay solvent.

The North West Counties League club's chiefs say Blues fans are needed more than ever during this crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

United's season, like that of all other non-league clubs, was brought to a premature end with the FA announcement last month that proceedings were being brought to a halt and playing records declared null and void.

With approximately a quarter of matches still to play, a lot of 'gate' money and takings over the bar are among revenue areas that have been lost.

A club statement on the JustGiving page reads: "Weʼre raising £3,500 to keep our club solvent amid the recent crisis. Blues fans, your club needs YOU!

"With the league being void and null the club will not be receiving funds from the gate, bar and other means.

"With these desperate times calls for desperate measures and the club is asking for fans, business partners and any other generous people if they can make any sort of donation to help keep the club going during this difficult time.

"It is an uncertain time for many clubs, but by donating your admission money that you would usually pay to get in to the games to the club, you can help with day to day running costs of a football club that can’t be furloughed. These include water, council tax, facilities and an aging stadium.

"If you wish to donate then we would be extremely grateful. No amount is too little and all of it will go towards helping a club that is powered by generosity, loyalty and it’s volunteers!!!!"
